Semi Wild Ferns
Every other name for this piece didn’t quite seem right, such as foliage water etc. What I was thinking about is the way that the woodlands reduce runoff intensity because they “capture” some of a fast storm in the canopy. Then, later, even after the sun comes out, you can be walking underneath and any breeze that comes along will shake the leaves and in some cases make you think that it is almost raining again. This piece is one of three I’m hoping will be part of my set this year, that attempt to reflect and in a way honor a few of my favorite composers. The group this year was supposed to be related to some poems under the group title “Sketches,” but I found I couldn’t tie the inspirations to specific poems.
